About This Course

This basic‑level Critical Course Skills course introduces learners to structured approaches for addressing common workplace problems. Learners will practise identifying and clarifying problems, analysing causes and effects, gathering information from online sources, and developing practical solutions using guided methods. The course also covers simple ways to test and evaluate solutions using available workplace technologies. Selected digital and AI‑enabled tools may be used as aids to support information gathering, organisation, and clarity of thinking. This course builds essential problem‑solving skills to support informed decision‑making and everyday work improvements across different work contexts.

What you will learn

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

Identify and describe workplace problems by using structured approaches and asking appropriate questions to understand the issue accurately.
Distinguish the causes and effects of workplace problems by applying recognised analysis techniques and organising information with support from simple digital and AI‑enabled tools (SmartDraw, Visual Paradigm).
Develop and compare suitable solutions to workplace problems by searching for relevant information online, consulting stakeholders, and using AI‑enabled tools to support idea generation and comparison of options.
Apply selected solutions on a small scale by planning and carrying out basic workplace experiments and recording key observations using available AI-enabled tools (Gemini, ChatGPT).
Review the effectiveness of solutions by comparing results against agreed criteria and suggesting improvements for future problem‑solving efforts.
