Digital Citizen Tablet Fundamentals sets out the basic concepts relating to using a tablet and the digital skills needed to complete some elementary or everyday tasks in a confident way.

 

Course Outline

  • Understand the features of a tablet and its uses.
  • Carry out common operations, apply settings, and secure a tablet.
  • Use a wireless network securely, and set up online accounts for different services.
  • Use a web browser to browse, search for, and bookmark web pages.
  • Capture, view, organise and share images and videos.
  • Use an application store, and install and update applications.
  • Recognise backup and storage options for a table, and use cloud-based storage.

About Course

Enable participants with little or no knowledge of computers to learn its basics. Participants will be introduced to a desktop and documents, and be aided in connecting to the internet and creating an email account.

 

Course Outline

  • Understand basic concepts: parts and types of a computer.
  • Learn typing with symbols, basic keyboard functions; and use the mouse.
  • Start, restart, log on and shut down the computer.
  • Manage the desktop, taskbar and the Start button.
  • Manage files and folders, and understand basic storage information.
  • Understand computer applications: word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentations.
  • Recognise different file types.
  • Create, name, save, edit and print a document.
  • Change font types, size and files; copy and paste text; bold, underline and italicise text in documents.
  • Understand the basics of internet usage and functions: evaluating information, connecting to the internet, downloading files, search engines, web browsers and social networking.

About Course

Equip participants with basic computer knowledge so they can apply ICT concepts to various operating systems, desktops, computer files, web browsers, email communication, word processors, and spreadsheets.

 

Course Outline

  • Understand hardware (data memory and storage) and software concepts (operating system and applications).
  • Understand computer usage considerations: ensure user well-being, energy saving practices, securing your data and good password policies.
  • Start, log on, restart and shut down a computer.
  • Manage basic desktop settings.
  • Manage files and folders.
  • Create, save and edit word processing documents.
  • Format word processing documents: change font size, type and styles; and other functions (alignment, paragraph, spacing, orientation, paper size, margin).
  • Preview and print word processing documents.
  • Create, save and edit spreadsheets.
  • Create formulas and format spreadsheets.
  • Print, preview and select cell range of worksheet.
  • Search the web and manage search output and online bookmarks (download text, images and files).
  • Create, forward and reply to emails.
  • Add or delete attachment in emails.
  • Print and preview emails.
